Its a time of caroling, feasting, and gift-giving, along with prayers and wishes. It is celebrated with high spirits all over. Christmas season is an ideal time to express love and good wishes for those we care. Christmas is the time for giving and sharing. It’s the time for loving and forgiving. When you celebrate Christmas you experience true love. Jesus is the reason for the season and he is the epitome for true love. People like to relate to things that make them happy. And Christmas season and decorations bring out those strong feelings of childhood. Decorations are a pathway to the old childhood magical emotions of excitement. So we tend to start putting up the decorations early. Decorating early can make us happier.
My mama was the person who instilled the Christmas spirit into us. Every year as December came by she used to unpack the Christmas buntings and start decorating the house. When I was small I still remember the buntings and a lot of homemade decors were put up. She taught us the meaning of the festival and the meaning of each little piece of the decoration. This year as the season has come by I thought I would like to share it with you. She was a lady of strong faith and every little thing she did, she made sure we learned it and implemented it. She was very particular that I know the meaning of Christmas and how much it meant to everyone. I am happy that the tradition of celebrating Christmas has been passed down to the next generation.
Christians all over the world celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ in December. Christians at the time of Advent prepare themselves and get ready to celebrate the joy of Christmas. Christmas celebrations start on 25th and last for 12 days. The 12 days of Christmas is a time of feasting and fun. It ends on 5th January on the twelfth night. January 6th is an epiphany, the day the three kings visited Jesus when he was a baby. It’s that day you take the Christmas decorations down. Christmas doesn’t end there. The end of Christmas comes on Feb 2nd 40 days after Christmas with Candlemas. It is also known as the presentation of Jesus at the temple or the fest of purification of the virgin mary
Traditional Christmas decorations are often admired by everyone. Christmas trees are a popular decoration and its a symbol of everlasting hope and life with God. It was believed that the evergreens always stayed evergreen all year. The lights on the Christmas tree resemble the stars twinkling in the night sky. The star symbolizes the star of Bethlehem it is believed that it lead the three kings to baby Jesus in the manger. It’s a heavenly sign of prophecy fulfilled long ago and shows us that Christ is a shining hope for humanity.
The bells have become a part of the Christmas decor and they proclaim the arrival of the season and announce the birth of Christ. It also signifies that all are precious in His eyes. The round wreath is the never-ending symbol of eternal love of the Father. The holly represents immortality and cedar for strength. It symbolizes generosity giving and gathering of the family.
The candy canes on the Christmas tree have a meaning as well. It reminds us of the shepherd’s staff which was used to guide the sheep. Jesus is often called the good shepherd. Gifts remind us of the greatest gift God, he gave us his son Jesus Christ as the greatest gift of all. We have received the eternal life through the blood of Jesus Christ. The inspiration behind giving and receiving the gifts on Christmas started when the wise men brought gold frankincense and myrrh to honor Jesus’ birth. Now it’s become a way to share joy love and kindness among the loved ones.
The beautiful pine cones represent fertility and motherhood. The red Christmas bow indicates that we should be tied together in bonds of goodwill forever. The angel proclaimed the news of the Savior’s birth. Santa Claus (St.Nicholas) celebrated the season by giving gifts and love to all. The colors red and green symbolize the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Gold signifies the gift of eternal life and the rich blessings He has given us
