#what makes us happy? #what makes us smile?
Happiness is not the same for everyone. It has a different meaning for each one of us. It is a choice, we must choose how to live it. As a famous quote goes “Happiest people don’t have the best of everything, they make the best of everything they have.” They focus on what they have, whereas unhappy people focus on what is missing. We must stop chasing permanent happiness and try to accept the ups and downs of our lives. The ups and downs of one’s life bring a lot of negativity and bring down the energy level. But happy people, have such positive energy in them. That their positive vibes are so contagious that it tends to spread. Happiness is an attitude of our mind. We must be true to ourselves and we must choose if we want to be happy or not. It comes from within our mind. A person can change their perspective on life by changing their attitude and mindset about things. Happiness is the ultimate goal of mankind, but it is not a final destination. Its a combination of how satisfied you are with your life. One has the ability to control how you can feel.
We often use the term happiness to describe a range of positive emotions. They include joy, pride, confidence, contentment, gratitude, and love. Contentment isn’t a matter with being content with the situation in your life. Its a matter of being content with what you have. Happiness itself is a self-contentedness we choose whether we have to be happy or unhappy. Joy is a feeling of great happiness, a pleasure that lifts up our spirits. Serenity is a state of mind where you feel relaxed calm and happy. You experience the tranquility and peace of mind. Everyone does live in hope. There are moments when one goes through a lot of troubles but still one moves on with a hope that things would change for the better someday. Most of us have a pre-decided rule on when we will be happy. Till then we delay our gratification or postpone our happiness. We shouldn’t wait to be happy or wait to enjoy things. Life is filled to the brim with trifles that can make us happy. It is a journey that is filled with precious moments that give us true joy. A life that is lived for the joy of living, is an art. Every moment around us there are sights and events that can give us untold joy. All we need to do is discover the joy which already resides in us. Trifles make true happiness.
When the state of mind is positive we are cheerful and it helps to build confidence in one’s self. We do certain goals and come out successful. Pride has a positive impact on self-confidence. It is an emotion that comes from feeling important and excited for things one has achieved. One feels content when you are satisfied and happy in mind. Spirituality helps us to stay happy. The frequent chanting of our prayers strengthens the mind and body. Since childhood, we have been taught to pray. Everyone prays for himself or herself. When someone else prays for you its heard much faster than what it would normally take. That’s the magic of praying for someone else. When you are doing that you are doing it without a selfish motto that’s what makes it so effective. Praying for others is the noblest things that we can do as humans. It helps to add the values to the lives of others.
Both happiness and sadness is a choice most of us lose our happiness because of the daily grind life brings. The biggest contributor to a person’s happiness is maintaining a good relationship. If we don’t balance our life well, relationships, work, and money can be a reason for unhappiness. If one is selfish we can never be happy. Likewise, if certain relationships are meant to part. It’s always best to move on and take challenges than live in pain and fear. We must be grateful and generous to people who make us smile.
There is an interesting anecdote about happiness.
Once a street urchin was happily doing nothing. A passerby asked him,” why are you wasting time doing nothing worthwhile?” The urchin asked him, “Master, what do you think I must do?” The passerby said, “Do some work, get employed, rather than doing nothing at all.” The urchin enquired, “What will happen then?” ” You will have some money to live by.” said the passerby. The urchin asked, “And what will I do with that money?” the urchin wanted to know, “You can lead a better life, have a home, marry and have kids. The passerby was getting impatient, “and then” persisted the urchin.”You will be happy and enjoy your life.” The passerby was sure he had convinced the urchin. But the reply he got, put all his doubts to rest. The urchin replied with a smile, “Be happy and enjoy my life, that’s what I am doing even now”
“Happiness is not the way we look at it, it’s very much within us.”
