“Now its time for us to wait for Manikyan…”
This week I thought of writing about my favourite actor in the Malayalam movie world Mohanlal. As his movie, Odiyan is to be released in the second week of December and we are all waiting in anticipation for its release. I thought of writing about the much-awaited film and our beloved actor Mohanlal. Odiyan is inspired on a folklore of the Malabar region. It’s about the legendary Odiyan clan (the mythical black magicians) with the ability to use the trick Odi vidya. They had the ability to shapeshift into animal forms at night and they used to terrorise people to death. The story is based on Manikyan who could take the form of an animal. Lalettan is one of the finest actors who can slip into any role easily. So Manikyan could be a feast for every viewer
Lalettan, as he is fondly called, has been in the film fraternity since almost four decades. And it’s a reality that the dominating legendary characters Vincent Gomez, Sagar Alias Jacky, Mangalassery Neelakantan, the evergreen Icon Aaram Thampuran and Thomas Chacko(Aadu Thoma)are imprinted in everyone’s mind. Now its time for us to wait for Manikyan.
Mohanlal and Manju duo is always a much-awaited pair. They have worked magic on screen in their previous movies. Aaraam Thampuran was a classic, in that movie Jagganathan and Unnimaya electrified the screen when they shared the same screen space. It was one of the biggest industrial hits. In Kanmadham they worked with ease. It was a treat to watch Viswanathan and the hot-tempered Bhanu fight and yet fall in love. When Manju was back to the film world after 17 years. We waited for them to recreate their magic on screen in the much-awaited film Ennum Eppozhum. It’s a known fact to every writer that its a challenge to write a script for two brilliant actors like Lalettan and Manju who have a huge fan following. In the movie Villian, they recreated that magic. Mohanlal enacted the lingering pain of personal loss with such finesse. His subdued performance was brilliant. Even though Manju had a small role she did justice to it in the emotional scenes in the hospital.
We are all waiting for the release of Odiyan the much talked about movie. An upcoming fantasy thriller which is the directorial debut by V.A Shrikumar Menon and written by Harikrishnan. Under the banner of Aashirwaad Cinemas, it’s being released on Dec 14th in over 4000 screens worldwide. Veteran actor Prakash Raj and Manju Warrier are playing alongside with Mohanlal. Odiyans are said to have lived in the Malabar region during the pre-electricity era. The story is based on the tribes of Odiyan and their myth.
The story is about 3 generations of the Odiyan clan. Mohanlal is set to be shown in three different stages of life. I am waiting to see the transformation of Lalettan and how he showcases the character Manikyan. As we all know director Shrikumar Menon was determined not to resort to graphics to make Lalettan look like the young Manikyan. So he got a team of 25 experts from France to prepare the new look of Lalettan with reduced weight. The efforts of Lalettan too have paid off. We are also going to witness Manju portraying her three different stages of the life of her character Prabha. It’s going to be one of the finest roles in her career. In Odiyan, her character is important as both India’s finest actors Mohanlal and Prakash Raj roles revolve around her. I just love the song and love the look of Manju in the lyrical video”Kondoram, Kondoram “that has been released by the Odiyan team. The song is sung by Shreya Ghoshal and Sudeep Kumar for the music by M.Jayachandran. The teaser of the film has been released recently and it is being watched and shared by almost everyone. Ever since the news of trimming Lalettan into shape was released. Every hardcore fan of Lalettan and every one has been waiting for its release. Now the time has come and the countdown has begun for the big day.
