# “Dil Bechara Movie Review.”

The movie “Dil Bechara” is the story of Kizie (Sanjana) and Mannie (Sushant) who meet at a college fest. It’s a story on two ordinary people who are poles apart. They fall in love and have a tragic twist in life. Its a story on two cancer patients. Cancer isn’t glorified but it is shown as part of life. As the movie moves on we are taken through an emotional journey of two cancer patients hopelessly in love. Sushant is so natural and plays his part perfectly well without overacting. Mannie is witty, smart, and emotional. His smile and the glitter in his eyes are so infectious.  Sanjana makes a beautiful debut as the heroine of this movie. She beautifully depicts how the character Kizie has to live with the truth that she would die soon. She carries a mini oxygen tank with her always and spends her time attending funerals. Manny comes into her life and teaches her how to live. The middle-class Bengali family is depicted well.

The movie is full of life and one gets emotional when he takes her to the graveyard and tells her about the pain he had when Kizie was hospitalized. It’s only then we realize that behind the brave face of Mannie there was a boy who was enduring pain and was trying to fight them by fulfilling his dreams. There are funny and lighter moments  In the movie. Sushant tries to gimmick like Rajanikanth and ShahRukh khan while making the Bhojpuri film for his friend JP. A few scenes do make us emotional when Mannie says he likes to dream big and adds “Lekin adhoora chodtha hoon.“ The other scene that brings tears to one’s eye is when he says would love to see his funeral and makes his friend and Kizie do a eulogy for him. In the end, its irony to see us mourning not only for Emmanuel but for Sushant himself.

Director Mukesh Chabbra in his directorial debut has not disappointed us. He chose the perfect cast Sushant as Mannie is perfect and Sanjana as  Kizie is vibrant. She manages to hold her ground in scenes with Sushant. Saswata Chatterjee (Kizie’s father) Swastika Mukherjee( Kizie’s mother) and Sahil Vaid(his friend) play their roles to the T. Saif Ali Khan leaves an impression as Kizie’s favorite singer Abhimanyu Veer when he appears in a cameo role.

The movie is inspired by the Famous Novel and best seller of 2012 “The Fault in Our Stars” by John Green. It was adapted into a Hollywood film in 2014 with the same name. Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort played the lead roles. Shashank Khaitan and Suprotim Sengupta have adapted the story well to the likes of the Indian Audience. Even though the screenplay couldn’t imbibe the depth of the novel & Hollywood movie. Dil Bechara will be loved by all for the performances of Sushant and Sanjana and the soulful music of AR Rahman. The song Main Tumhara  Main Tumhara sung by Jonita Gandhi & Hriday  Gattani is indeed a very heart rendering song.

July 24th, 2020 will always be remembered as each one of us was waiting in anticipation for the movie to be streamed on Disney+ Hotstar. It was streamed for free. As the movie began to unfold, it was hard to accept that we were watching Sushant’s last film.  Sushant’s performance will be remembered for years to come. He had proved himself and made his presence felt from his first film Kai Po Che, and films like M.S.Dhoni the Untold Story, Chhichore, etc. We have lost a good actor. It was too early for him to leave.
